What is A Dental Cleaning?
Even if you brush and floss your teeth perfectly at home, it is still important to have professional cleanings at Downtown Boston Dental twice each year. Using advanced tools, a biannual professional cleaning eliminates built-up plaque and tartar and then polishes your teeth for a healthier, brighter smile. Our team is always happy to give you tips on ways to better clean your teeth at home and discover certain areas that need more care. A professional dental cleaning will also give our dentists the opportunity to check for any problem areas in the mouth that might require care, hopefully catching any issues as early as possible. Having a dental cleaning is a vital step in maintaining your dental health so make an appointment for yourself and your family at our Boston, MA location.
Dental Cleaning Reviews
"I’ve been going to Canesi & Kitsos for many years, and always have a good experience. This past visit was especially good because Victoria not only gave me an exceptionally thorough cleaning, but did it so carefully that I experienced very little discomfort."- P.L. / Google / Jan 01, 2020
"Going to a dentist is not my favorite past times. Everything went well on my first visit. The dental cleaning was thorough and meticulous. My mouth had a great feeling to it after I left and the following day. Dr. Ryan was also very detailed in going over my dental plan and was not in a rush to get me out but concentrated on the most important issues to address first. I felt happy and confident after this visit that my plan will progress and go well. Bill"- W.F. / Google / Dec 01, 2019
"There's a simple reason for all these 5-star reviews: This practice will make you *love* getting your teeth cleaned (and/or fixed)! Dr. Kitsos has been my dentist for decades, and I have never had a more caring, thorough, or gentle dentist care for my teeth. You will feel welcome from the moment you check in, all the way through your cleaning (all of the hygienists are wonderfully personable!), all the way to the moment you (hopefully) get a clean bill of toothy health from Drs. Kitsos or Canesi. This practice has just one drawback: You'll find yourself wanting to chat away no matter how many dental instruments are in your mouth!!"- J.B. / Google / Sep 01, 2018
"I've searched for a dentist in Boston for the past 3 years and after some not so great experiences I was thrilled to find Dr. Canesi. His staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They remember my name and are always happy to see me. Dr. Canesi is no different. Always there with a smile on his face and recollection of our previous conversations. As a dentist he is without equal. I've been in for a teeth cleaning, a crown and two cavities. My poor dental hygiene aside, Dr. Canesi is always able to get me back on right track. ( I promise I'll floss one of these days ) I cannot recommend Dr. Canesi enough! While he is located right in downtown Boston, if the Doctor ever decides to move his Dental Practice outside of the city I'll be sure to follow. Thank you again for making the sometimes scary practice of going to the dentist, a pain-free pleasant experience."- M.W. / Google / Sep 01, 2017
"Thank you for the cleaning, Evelyne!"- H.R. / Google / Mar 01, 2020
Who Should Get Professional Teeth Cleanings?
The American Dental Association suggests people schedule a professional teeth cleaning two times each year. Children should get their first dental exam before they turn one, and after that, our team will help you determine when your child is ready for their next dental visit. A professional cleaning may help you avoid cavities since built-up plaque, the biggest reason for tooth decay, is removed. Teeth cleanings at Downtown Boston Dental will also address tartar and stains from the enamel for a brighter smile, fresher breath, improved oral health, and less money in the long run. Make an appointment for teeth cleanings for your whole family at our family-friendly downtown Boston, MA office.
What To Expect From Your Dental Cleaning
Your cleaning will start by addressing the tartar and plaque buildup from your teeth, which is oftentimes a challenge to remove on your own with just daily brushing and flossing. We use special instruments to scale buildup without harming your teeth. First, an ultrasonic device will be used to break up large chunks of plaque and tartar with a lubricating mist and high-speed vibrations. Then, handheld instruments, such as a scaler or curette, will be used to remove the remaining pieces. Each tooth needs to be scaled to get all the tartar and plaque. After your teeth have been scaled, your enamel will be carefully polished to remove stains and strengthen the teeth. If requested or needed, a fluoride treatment can be done following your cleaning.
After Your Dental Cleaning
We may suggest cleanings more frequently for either yourself or a family member if we have concerns, such as gum disease. Our team will help you develop a good at-home oral care routine by demonstrating techniques or recommending certain products that can focus on your areas of concern. These can be very beneficial for your teeth, overall health, and wallet so make sure you and your family attend dental cleanings at Downtown Boston Dental.
Insurance Coverage for Teeth Cleanings
Teeth cleanings are considered a preventive procedure so they are usually covered by insurance. Someone from our office will contact your insurance to determine your specific coverage and then charge for any remaining costs. If you don't have dental insurance, please feel free to ask about the different payments we take and medical financing.
