What is a Bite Analysis?
Misaligned teeth can cause damage to your gums and teeth, as well as discomfort in your jawbone. An analysis of your bite is done to help determine if you have a poor bite or an occlusion disorder. To complete a bite evaluation, we utilize state-of-the-art technology to test the potency of your teeth and determine how much force is exerted by each tooth. This test can help us identify if you have an underbite, crossbite, or overbite. We also assess your muscles, jaw, and teeth together to look for any underlying issues, which may be brought on by a bad bite. If not handled correctly, a poor bite may result in future issues that can be painful or debilitating so it's important to get a diagnosis once you observe an uncomfortable or painful bite. "This office is simply the best. They are completely professional and respectful of their patients’ time (appointments are always punctual). I also really appreciate the nonjudgmental and conservative approach to dentistry - I have never felt upsold on any additional product or service. I feel very taken care of and have recommended multiple friends to this office. Thanks y’all! Keep it up!"- H.E. / Google / Jul 15, 2021
"I have had many fillings and cleanings here. The service is always very good. The staff are on top of insurance checks/issues. They are great at confirming/rescheduling. Dr. Canesi and his techs are very gentle and patient. The fillings are done well - no issues over the past 10 years. I would highly recommend this office for people who fear going to the dentist or have special requests. Update: I’ve now been coming here for about 15 years, and I still think this is the best dental practice I have ever been to. Every provider is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and talented. They are sensitive and caring. This includes the excellent administrative staff."- K.J. / Google / Jul 07, 2021

Should I Get a Bite Analysis?
If you have crooked teeth, cracked or chipped teeth, a broken tooth, pain while chewing, chronic jaw aches or headaches, an inflamed or rigid jaw, and receding gums, you may benefit from a bite analysis. In some cases, a misaligned bite can result in teeth grinding, also called bruxism, which can be the cause of further jaw pain and reduced enamel.
What to Expect From a Bite Analysis
A bite analysis usually consists of electronic x-rays, a 3D scan, a bite study, and a physical examination by our orthodontist, Dr. Michael J. Cognata. Once the issues with your bite are identified, we will offer different treatment options, depending on your circumstance. In more mild instances, a nighttime dental guard is usually advocated, though some severe cases may need operative therapy.
Follow-Up from Your Bite Analysis
It is important to continue to schedule regular dental examinations at Downtown Boston Dental so we can assess any changes, even after your bite analysis therapy. You will also need to continue to maintain a proper home oral hygiene regimen, which includes regular flossing, brushing, and mouthwash.
Insurance Coverage for a Bite Analysis
The cost for your bite evaluation is dependent on the type of imaging that is used. Prior to your bite analysis, we will contact your insurance provider to determine what may be covered and if there will be any extra expenses. To make your dental experience easier, Downtown Boston Dental accepts many payment options and is happy to help you find low-interest medical financing so your treatment is more affordable.
